Healthy Cooking

1. We never, ever, NEVER deep-fry anything... french fries, chicken tenders, fish; everything is baked.
2. Hooray for healthy fats! When we need to use oil for anything we use olive oil, canola oil or grapeseed oil.
3. We use only 90% lean ground beef for tacos, meatloaf, etc.
4. “Cream” sauces & soups are made with skim milk instead of heavy cream or half & half.
5. We use only Boar’s Head Brand Deli meat & cheese, as well as Boar’s Head Brand Bacon. What does this mean? Boar’s Head meat is one of the most premium brands of deli meat in the country. It provides great taste as well as health benefits that most deli meats lack. The American Heart Association certifies many of the Boar’s Head products because they are low in fat & cholesterol, as well as being lower in sodium. The products we use that are AHA certified are: Blazing Buffalo Chicken, Aroastica Chicken, Ovengold Turkey and Top Round Roast Beef. The Cajun Turkey is low in Fat & Cholesterol, but the Cajun Seasoning gives it a higher sodium count. More specific nutrition information is available in booklets located at each location.
6. All of our soups, hot entrées and most of our baked goods are made fresh daily in our Westport kitchen. If you ever have any specific questions about how something is made, feel free to e-mail me at extrathyme@att.net. 
7. We do not add salt when cooking. The rare exception would be the tuna salad & chicken salad. We rely on a wide variety of herbs and spices for our delicious flavors.
8. We’ve been working at putting together the nutritional information for as many of our menu items as possible. At this point we have the info for most of our wraps, sandwiches and boxed salads. We also have a list of great snack ideas that are less than 150 calories.
